Polypropylene Loop carpet tiles are produced using a method called tufting. The cloth is firstly manufactured by pushing hundreds of yarn threaded needles through a backing fabric to form small individual loops. The back of the cloth is then coated with a heavy adhesive to hold the loops in place before a secondary layer is added for extra strength and rigidity. It is then backed with a layer of bitumen prior to being cut into a European standard tile size of 50cm x 50cm using a square die.
Polypropylene fibre which is sometimes denoted as (PP) is a commodity plastic typically used due to its excellent properties, such as stability, heat/stain resistance and process-ability. In addition, this fibre is known for its lightweight material density and low cost making it ideal for use on a carpet tile.
