Broad Rib carpet tiles are manufactured in much the same way as a fine rib. Again made using the needle punch or needle felt process at the factory. The main differences being the way the pile is formed, the ribs are basically broader but in doing so, to produce this style, more fibre content is required providing a far superior quality over a fine rib. This is generally reflected in the price as it costs more to produce due to its higher gramme weight. The fibre is still punched through the backing layer the same to provide a straight cord appearance to the top cloth, however the ribs are set wider apart. The cloth is then backed in bitumen before finally being cut into individual squares.
These carpet tiles are mainly produced using polypropylene yarn, but some factories will blend with other types of fibre to create an even higher specification tile depending on the application required. This type of tile is ideal for use in corridors, foyers, reception areas, gyms, shops or leisure centres.
